Description
The west ridge of the Großvenediger is peppered with varied sections where you are mostly pretty much alone because you avoid the hustle and bustle of the normal route to the west. The climb goes over easy block terrain from the white tooth to the summit.
Day 1: Meeting point Hopffeldboden and take a taxi to the Obersulzbachtal to the Kürsingerhütte cable car. From there it's about a 1.5 hour walk to the hut. The hut's cable car takes care of transporting the heavy backpack, so we arrive at the hut relaxed. After moving into camp, you will receive the rental equipment (crampons, harness, carabiners, etc.) if required, and we end the day with a situation check and tour planning.
Day 2: After breakfast we set off early to make our first contact with the glacier on the Obersulzbachkees as it gets light. Then we continue on the rope under the north ridge to the Sulzbacherkees. Between the mighty crevasses we finally reach the start of the white tooth at around 3,460 metres. From there the fun begins and we climb up to the summit over easy block terrain. Finally a small climb and around midday we reach the summit cross of the ancient majesty at over 3,657 metres. On the Großvenediger we take a short summit break and then climb back over the Venedigerkees to the Kürsingerhütte. We pack up our things again and go down to the cable car station and take a taxi to Hopffeldboden.
