INNOVATION ON THE MOUNTAIN SINCE 1932.

The Kohla company was founded in 1932 by Max Kohla in Innsbruck. Even then it was clear that the focus should be on mountain sports items "Made in Tyrol". The headquarters in the middle of the Alps laid the foundation for the first products. Backpacks, sticks and hunting equipment were the first products made by Max Kohla KG in Tyrol. After a few years of development, the first backpacks were made of nylon and aluminum was used as a revolution in stick construction. In the 1970s, these innovations made the “Kohla” brand the epitome of mountaineering. Not only Kohla products were manufactured, but special models were also sold to well-known manufacturers. The first aluminum telescopic poles were launched in the late 1970s. This means that we not only have sufficient experience in pole construction, but have also been producing quality-conscious telescopic poles in Tyrol for over 40 years.

In 2003, the "Kohla" brand, the employees and the production were taken over by the Span brothers from the Tyrolean Stubaital and the newly formed Ibex Sportartikel GmbH was founded. A completely restructured company with over 20 years of experience in development, production and sales. The portfolio was reduced and attention was paid to the essentials. We develop, produce and test the products in Tyrol, can use short decision-making processes to quickly incorporate the feedback from our customers into the product.

A number of product awards in recent years, including two ISPO Awards (2013/14 + 2015/16) confirm our path and give us further motivation to manufacture the best local mountain sports products. We can proudly say that we are one of the few mountain sports brands that produce more than 80% of the products in Tyrol/Austria and therefore make a significant contribution to environmental protection and the promotion of our employees.
