Description

The normal routes to the "world-old majesty" the Großvenediger can be climbed via three huts. From the new Pragerhütte in Matrei in East Tyrol, from the Defreggerhaus or the Johannishütte in Prägraten in East Tyrol or from the Kürsingerhütte in Neukirchen am Großvenediger. The recommendation of tauern sports clearly comes from the Kürsingerhütte because this is certainly the most beautiful ascent to the Großvenediger with a view of the more than 500 meter high north face. We are also happy to offer guided tours through the other two huts.

Ascent: 1,200 HM

Descent: 1,200 HM

Day 1: Meet at Hopffeldboden and take a taxi to Obersulzbachtal to the Kürsingerhütte cable car. From there it is about a 1.5 hour walk to the hut. The material cable car of the hut takes care of the transport of the heavy backpack and so we arrive relaxed at the hut. After moving into the camp, you will receive the rental equipment (crampons, harness, carabiners, etc.) if required and we will end the day with a situation check and planning of the tour.

Day 2: After breakfast we set off early to make the first contact with the glacier on the Obersulzbachkees when it gets light. Then we continue on the rope and between the mighty crevasses we finally come to the Venedigerscharte. From there we get a perfect all-round view and also see the Grossglockner for the first time. After a short rest in the sun, we start the final sprint and after a short snow ridge passage we reach the summit of the Großvenediger at over 3,657 meters. On the Großvenediger we take a short rest at the summit and then climb back over the Venice Kees to the Kürsingerhütte. Packed my things back down to the cable car station and took a taxi to Hopffeldboden.
