Nikwax Down Proof does not require heat to develop DWR properties, but tumble drying is recommended (care instructions permitting) to ensure the down dries thoroughly and as quickly as possible. Leaving down wet or damp can ruin it completely. Tumble dry on a low setting according to the manufacturer's instructions until clumps have disappeared. Make sure there is enough room in the dryer for the item, even when dry, as it will return to its original size during drying.
Pulling clumps apart during the drying process helps maintain the loft value of the down.
After tumble drying, it is recommended to air the item(s) in a warm, dry place for at least one day before storing.
